The loose, sagging skin in the areas of the upper arms and thighs is caused by extreme weight loss and loss of elasticity.
Unfortunately, skin elasticity cannot be enhanced; therefore, for patients with a large amount of excess skin, only a thigh lift and an arm lift – surgical skin tightening – can improve the esthetic appearance of the thighs and arms.
A thigh lift is the only way to solve this problem.
An arm lift improves the appearance of the arm
How Is the Surgery Performed?
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. During the surgery, the excess skin is removed. Incisions are usually placed along the extremity to make the postoperative scars less visible:
- A thigh lift: an incision is made along the inner thigh from the knee up to the groin. The postoperative scar is visible only looking from side; it is not noticeable from the front or back.
- An arm lift: and incision is made along the underside of the arm. The postoperative scar is visible when the arms are raised or turned outward.
An arm lift or a thigh lift can be performed in conjunction with liposuction.
